Who is Jorge
Who is Jorge, Anyway?

It was some time in the 1970's when Dan Hoskin, the owner of Jorge the Crook's, crewed KC-130's for the Marines.  He was on a flight to the Azore Islands. A Navy fighter squadron was also there. The bar on the island was a place called Jorges, a rather rough and tumble joint. Legend has it (according to Dan, anyway!) that a Navy "Squid" threw a punch at a Marine. Needless to say, the bar fight of the century broke out and the bar was demolished! Jorge called the MP’s, who promptly threw the offending military men in the brig. Telling the MP’s that to rebuild his bar would cost $200,000, Jorge insisted on repayment. The military realized Jorge was exaggerating the amount, so the men who participated in the bar fight worked three shifts a day for three days until Jorges was rebuilt. The final cost was under $20,000! When Dan came to Quincy in 2001 and saw our building, it reminded him of the bar in the Azore Islands and of the “crook” who ran it...Jorge!

The building that houses Jorge the Crooks today was built in the late 1800’s. It served as a stable for horses used during Quincy’s horse and buggy era. The stables are still in the basement and the stable doors still face the river. Dan, along with his wife Debbie, have worked hard to remodel this historic river front property into one of the area’s premier restaurants.

And finally, Jorge is pronounced "George", not Hor-hay!
